The Project

Right on the water in St. Augustine Beach, sun and glare run the show. For this project we installed a motorized solar screen to take control of the harsh coastal light without closing the space off from the view that made the home worth buying.

A solar screen here does two jobs at once: it knocks down the heat and glare coming off the sand and water, and it cuts UV that fades furniture and floors, all while staying see-through enough to keep the beach in frame. Because it’s motorized, the homeowner deploys it for the worst of the afternoon sun and rolls it away when the light softens.

On the coast, that retract-when-not-needed habit also protects the fabric from constant salt and sun, which is half of making a screen last out here.
