SilverLeaf (St. Johns County), FL: OpenRoller Cable Solar Screen, Phifer SunTex 95
The Project
In the fast-growing SilverLeaf community, this homeowner had a patio losing the battle with afternoon sun. We installed an OpenRoller cable-guided solar screen using Phifer SunTex 95, an exterior-grade fabric with about 5% openness that blocks roughly 95% of the sun’s heat and UV while keeping a usable view to the outside.
SunTex 95 is a workhorse exterior solar fabric: dense enough to take the punch out of direct sun and glare, open enough that you can still see through it and feel some breeze. On a cable-guided OpenRoller system, it covers a wide opening without intrusive tracks, so the patio keeps its open feel when the screen is up and gets real solar relief when it’s down. As with any cable-guided solar screen, the job here is heat and glare, not a bug seal, and that’s exactly what this homeowner needed.
