Pecan Park (Jacksonville), FL: Motorized Retractable Screen, Textilene Nano 99
The Project
When heat and glare are the main enemy, the fabric choice does most of the work. For this Pecan Park project we installed a motorized retractable screen using Textilene Nano 99, one of the densest solar screen fabrics made, engineered to block roughly 99% of UV and a large share of the sun’s heat while still holding a view through the weave.
The reason to reach for a fabric that dense is simple physics: you stop the heat at the screen, before it ever enters the covered space. That’s the only approach that actually cools a patio, rather than fighting the heat after it’s already inside. Because the screen is motorized and track-guided, the homeowner gets that heavy solar protection on demand and a sealed edge against bugs, then rolls it all away when the afternoon sun is gone.
If your outdoor space turns into an oven every afternoon, this is the category of fix. We go deeper on why west-facing patios overheat, and how shade fabric solves it, in our article on why your west-facing lanai feels like an oven.
