After years of installing motorized screens and awnings across Northeast Florida, one thing I tell homeowners often is this: you don’t always need a full outdoor remodel to change how you use your space. Some of the biggest improvements I’ve seen come from small, targeted upgrades.
One screen can change how a whole patio feels
A single motorized screen on the open side of a covered patio is often all it takes to turn a space you avoid in the afternoon into one you actually use. It blocks the low-angle sun and keeps out no-see-ums without walling the space off. When you don’t want it, it rolls away out of sight.
Adding solar screening to just the hot wall
You don’t have to screen every opening at once. On a lot of Jacksonville and St. Johns County homes, the west-facing side takes the brunt of the heat. Screening that one exposure first makes an immediate difference and lets you spread the investment over time.
Small hardware choices that pay off later
Stainless fasteners, quality track sealing, and the right fabric openness factor cost a little more up front, but in Florida’s salt air and UV they’re what separate a screen that lasts a decade from one that fails in a few seasons.
Start small, build over time
My advice is simple: fix the one thing that bothers you most about your outdoor space first. Momentum takes it from there.
